FIRCA CERAMICS: GLAZING
Painting the intricate designs takes quite the steady hand! I was in complete awe of this artisan working on the plates. Each plate is unique, painted dot by dot.

Everyone needs a daily dose of color and pattern inspiration. BigBrightBold inspires and delights through showcasing colorful places, spaces and things.

Continuing the "meet the artist" series and showing behind the scenes views, I wanted to feature some studio shots from Kapadokya's Firca Ceramics.
First of all, they're workshop is in Kapadokya. In Eastern Turkey. In a cave. That makes them triple cool! Kapadokya, the land of hot air balloons and caves, is already spectacular, but this workshop that we visited on the last day of our stay truly stood out.
We got to meet the artisans working on the outstanding products, and see the entire production process. We walked through several rooms, starting with throwing the pottery (and learning about the special quartz clay they use) to then seeing an artisan molding the clay on the potter's wheel. One of our tour members actually got to sit behind the potter's wheel, and attempt to continue shaping the molded pot. Within seconds of turning the wheel, the pot turned into a blobby mess. Pretty amazing how effortless the potter made the process seem seconds before!
Wanted to share some behind the scenes photos of last week's Evite Postmark Doggy photoshoot. It was quite the crazy day, complete with running out to get Martha Stewart Doggie Sweaters and wrangling two adorable pups, Walter and Sylvester. I love photography and I love dogs, so the Doggie photoshoot was a dream come true! We are definitely not animal whisperers, but Walter and Sylvester behaved rather well for their stage debuts, thanks to their super helpful owners!
I apologize for being a blogging slacker all week. Work is in a crazed Holiday rush. And, I finally got the chance (IE courage) to revamp my bedroom with a grown up bed. Curtains, mattress, nightstand, wall colors, duvets, oh my! Yes, the process involved a lot of crazed late night texts to friends and photoshop renderings of bed choices in the space. Today was the day that everything got delivered. When it rains, it pours. But I am sooo happy I finally made a decision with the bed (Should I go for wood or upholstery, what style what fabric?) Photos coming soon. For now, I have to take a breath, relax and enjoy my new bed! Happy Weekend!
The Shibori workshop at Platform was so fun. We got the chance to dye a bunch of fabric, everything from tote bags to silk scarves. I tied rubber bands and folded the fabric, threw it in the dye vat, and always took out my creation as a complete suprise.
