Happy Monday! Wanted to get our week off to a bright start with these gorgeous paintings from Istanbul's Doruk Art Gallery at the Arasta Bazaar. Cemal Toy paints these abstracted Istanbul cityscapes on papyrus wrapped canvas. I came across his paintings on our first morning in Istanbul, and they remained a favorite find from the entire trip.

With an eye for combining pattern and texture, high and low art, the owner transforms the store into a modern, living gallery. According to their press coverage from SHOP Istanbul, "Hic's interior, resembling a living room, is full of colorful, modern takes on traditional craftsmanship. The gallery focuses on young artists and handmade gifts. Owner Emel Guntas, a well known local designer, curates her wares - furniture, homes accessories, artworks, jewelry and handbags - from as far away as China and Columbia and as close as a workshop on the next street. The selection includes products both playful and elegant, with funky rubber band necklaces alongside sleek porcelain trays. Armchairs are covered in bold, animal style carpets nestles beneath minimal metal wall hangings."
