IROCOH: DESIGN PROCESS

According to Alisa Benfey of IROCOH, "The calendar design is based on my newest pattern collection using photos I took on my trip to Milan and Florence last fall. It was my first time to be in Italy and I was overwhelmed with the rich history and beauty of patterns and colors all over the city. I took so many photos on both 35mm films and iPhone, and ended up with a great image library of patterns and colors. By cropping them and making repeated pattens using these photos of historical details of buildings, I continue to discover the possibility of geometric patterns. Here are some of the photos, and patterns I created with the photos."

BIG BRIGHT BOLD APRIL

As April draws to a close, I wanted to share a few candid moments. The Sagmeister Happy Show and our trip to Cavallo Point were definitely the highlights! Somehow, I did a lot of window shopping as well.

BOLD PATTERNS: EXPRESSIONS

Last weekend, I went to the Rose Bowl Flea Market, which happens to be one of my favorite places in Los Angeles. I am always struck by all the amazing patterns on the vintage clothes. I tend to gravitate toward the florals and the geometric abstracts, but these "abstract expressions" are a fun, lively contrast. See previous posts here and here.

THINGS TO LOVE: DAILY DISHONESTY

One of my colleagues recommended I check out Lauren Hom's Daily Dishonesty blog, and the site instantly became one of my favorite typographic inspirations. The concept is brilliant and the execution fun. Who isn't guilty of saying at least a few of these?!
