Maybelle Imasa-Stukuls: 21st century CALLIGRAPHY
I came across Maybelle Imasa-Stukuls' work on Pinterest and signed up for her Los Angeles Poketo workshop over the weekend.
Pretty lettering is everywhere lately. But, Maybelle's beautiful, classic calligraphic style stands out among all the hand drawn designs. Her style is so pretty, not quite perfect, and as she mentioned during the workshop, she strives for that imperfection. Maybe that's why her letterforms feel so classic and modern. When Maybelle wrote a paragraph at the end of class, the letters flowing out of the nib naturally and elegantly, most of the class just stood around her and gaped. She made it look so easy, as we could barely draw a single A. I guess she's been doing this for 10 years, so I won't be too jealous, but I am still very impressed. Maybelle's calligraphy elevated letters into art forms. As a typography teacher, I want to exploring hand lettering my own designs. With my custom nib, ink and practice booklet from Maybelle, I'm in a good place to start.
