Visiting Martin Venezky's new studio was the highlight of my Holiday Break. I had featured his previous office as the official launch of Big Bright & Bold in 2012 (see post here and here) and it was pretty incredible to return to San Francisco to see his new space. The office is definitely bigger, brighter and bolder than before, with even more displays of crafted, collaged ephemera. Bursting with color and imagery, every wall is alive with process and form.

The Appetite Engineers studio is a visual manifestation of how Martin teaches and creates, a striking immersion into his layered, complex work. The studio is a showcase to the living process: the process of layering and discovery, where it's the journey not the destination that matters. According to a Publisher's Weekly review of his book, "If Venezky's process is immersion, so too is his relationship with the objects he culls for his collages and assemblages. They completely envelop his personal surroundings, as illustrated in a meticulously annotated gatefold depicting his collection." Visiting the studio, I was greeted with not just a gatefold in a book, but a series of room size collages covering his walls. It felt like jumping into a colorful poster: the more I looked, the more I saw.
