In a Dayquil induced stupor I have managed to crawl to the computer. But since this crazy 24-hour flu hit me, wanted to say happy weekend and sign off until Monday. I have been sleeping non stop since yesterday, and feel slightly better. But, definitely take your vitamins! It's not fun!

Today was a trying day. A lot of changes are happening, and sometimes it's best to take a moment of solitude to just breathe.
I have so many stories I am itching to share and stores I want feature. The days are never long enough to accomplish all I have planned. But, today, I feel it is better to take a moment of pause. The time for 2013 reflections will come, the time for 2014 goals will also arrive. So, in the mean time, let's look up and reflect. This sculptures in SFO do just that. No matter how harried I am running to my gate, I always take a moment to look up an admire their simple forms. This time, I stopped to take a few photos.

I had such an inspired time at this weekend's DesignLoveFest Calligraphy workshop. DesignLovefest hosted the Blue Eye Brown Eye class. We got the chance to practice drawing pretty letters in very pretty colors.
The class was taught by the extremely gracious and talented Lauren Essl. It was the perfect way to spend a Saturday: learning a new skill, making friends and enjoying food and drink in the chic downtown LA studio. Our table was full of talented, talkative ladies. Wish the workshop could be a weekly occurrence!

I'm so glad I got into the DesignLoveFest Blue Eye Brown Eye calligraphy workshop. I have recently been very interested in calligraphy, and took an inspired workshop with Maybelle at Poketo before my trip to Turkey.
It was definitely a challenge, but this second time somehow seemed a bit easier than the first. Lauren's class was truly for beginners. We went over the basics, including assembling your pen, dipping your pen in ink, understanding ink flow and pressure, basic script lowercase letter forms, and developing your own lettering style. We got a full understanding of calligraphic strokes, letters, and technique, from start to finish. As a special for DesignLoveFest, we mixed our own gouache and did our class in color.
