Marimekko Week: Welcome

I am excited to share a whole week of Marimekko, launching with these colorful bolts of fabric and select glimpses into the new Beverly Hills shop.

Marimekko, established in 1951, is a Finnish textile and clothing design company renowned for its
original prints and colors. It has been my longtime favorite brand, ever since I came across the signature patterns backpacking through Finland in college. Luckily, the textiles and products are now available in the US. Marimekko has expanded to sell everything from home goods, duvets, tableware, bean bags, and wall art, to back to school supplies and clothing. Every day this week, I will focus on a different facet of the inspiring company.

MARIMEKKO WEEK: SNEAK PEEK

Today I am super excited to show a sneak peak into my recent Marimekko visit. I got the chance to tour the Beverly Hills store yesterday and photograph to my heart's content. Check out the Instagram here and come back Monday for a whole week of Marimekko! 

Marimekko was the first design company I became familiar with when I graduated from architecture school and started noticing patterns. This was in the days before Pinterest and Instagram, so I don't quite remember how I first heard of the brand which has been around the 1960's. When I was backpacking through Scandinavia, I became more obsessed with the bold florals I saw in Finland's Marimekko shops. So much so, that I bought a black and white duvet and backpacked with it for a few weeks just so I could decorate my first apartment. The theme was black, white and red, and though I have moved on to a lot of other favorite colors, I still have the duvet to this day. It is such an iconic, bold pattern, as fresh and modern as the day it was designed. Fast forward many years, still loving patterns and duvets, I was thrilled to learn that Marimekko opened a few retail stores in the United States. The stores sell the bold, colorful fabrics but also make beanbags, pillows, tablecloths, and wall hangings out of them. To showcase this inspiring brand, I will be sharing Marimekko color and pattern stories every day next week.

POSTMARK: CHEERS TO THE FRICKIN' WEEKEND

Definitely happy that it's Friday! Wanted to share these recent designs by Mary Kate McDevitt for Evite Postmark. It's not too late to organize an informal Labor Day party to celebrate the upcoming three day holiday. I definitely have to remind myself to work hard, but play harder.

TRINA TURK: LEMON YELLOW

This bright citrus from the Palm Springs Trina Turk is my favorite shade of yellow! Love how juicy it looks in the dessert sun.
