TANYA AGUINIGA: ART OF ROPE

I have long been impressed with Tanya Aguiniga's wearable art, and seeing her new pieces at the Echo Park Craft Fair, reawakened the urge to buy more rope jewelry. The fellow RISD alumni has pieces featured at local boutiques, including A+R Store. Her "bright additives for people" are bold statement pieces to wear with simple clothing. Working with common materials in unconventional ways, her thoughtful work inspires us to reconsider everyday objects. I love the chunky bracelets and necklaces, dipped in neon colors and braided out of vibrant threads.

BIG BRIGHT BOLD MAY

Decided to do an Instagram recap of May, though it's already past the first week of June. The summer is definitely flying by!

It's been a month of whirlwind traveling. Just as I got back from the New York Stationery Show, we left on a trip to San Diego. While New York was truly a place of immense inspiration and photo opportunities  - still doing more NSS Show recaps this week - I am happy to have photographed two awesome shops in San Diego, Mixture and Pigment. Also glad I got the chance to play resident tourist in Los Angeles last weekend, and explore Downtown's Grand Park. Amidst the far flung and local travels, I somehow managed to paint a few new pieces. My Saturday LACMA class is also proving to be a good place to practice my (rusty) watercolor skills. Will definitely present a lot of bold inspiration in the upcoming weeks.
