PAPER CALYX: DESIGN PROCESS

Today, I am to share such beautiful watercolors with our BigBrightBold Desktop Downloads. I like the fluid nature of the watercolor application, and the loose abstract quality of the painted petals.

According to Stacey, “Led by simple forms and a minimal palette, a drawing starts with direct observation of a plant, looking and drawing until a shape emerges that feels just right. The way pigment and water flow on paper is another vital element of my process; I am searching for the balance between control and accident. Instead of a literal representation of nature, my work aims to convey the essence or mood of a botanical specimen.”

NSS: ONE CANOE TWO

As promised this week, I will be sharing photos from select vendors from the National Stationery Show.

One the last day, we stumbled upon the One Canoe Two Letterpress booth. We met one of the founders - Beth Snyder - and chatted about the letterpress in the barn and their design process. The style - the lettering the geometric patterns- is elegantly casual. I especially love the Pieces and Patterns calendar, which is definitely a work of art ready to be framed.

The 100% original illustrated and letterpressed designs are printed on a big, old 10x15 C&P in a big red barn in sunny Mid-Missouri, USA. The designs are drawn or painted by hand, which sets them apart from other letterpress studios. The shop name comes from the founders' years of dreaming up big ideas around a campfire and floating down a spring-fed Missouri river in a canoe.

NEW MUSEUM: NEW IDEAS

Wanted to finish off the week with another favorite New York stop, The New Museum. Though the museum was in between shows, we had a great time touring the cafe, the rooftop terrace and even the tile mosaic bathrooms!

Happy weekend! Come back next week for a full recap of the Stationery Show, starting Monday.

THE HIGH LINE: SHADES OF GREEN

The High Line was definitely a highlight! Even on a very overcast, chilly day, nature's greens popped vibrantly. The park in the sky was definitely a place to gather and enjoy urban life.
