THINGS TO LOVE: CAVALIA

I finally got to see the new Cavalia spectacle,"Odysseo." It was electrifying to watch such a gorgeous display of beautiful creatures. Cirque shows amaze me because it's stupefying to think what the human body is capable of when in tip top shape. Not only were there acrobatics on the floor and in the air, but on horses! Odysseo definitely showcased the animals' natural abilities, power and grace.

THINGS TO LOVE: BLACK & WHITE

Spent a good time this weekend shopping, and couldn't help noticing all the black and white patterns. These aboriginal paintings use a simple palette, a palette that seems so bold and graphic.

THINGS TO LOVE: ABORIGINAL COLOR

Although I don't quite have the budget to start collecting original art, My trip to Australia inspired me to start saving! The textures and colors in the Aboriginal works are so contemporary. The colors vibrate off the canvas, each artist painting with their unique brush stroke and color palette. Although they appear abstract, Aboriginal paintings stem from the tribe's storytelling narratives. The paintings serve as visual maps of the landscape.

THINGS TO LOVE: ABORIGINAL ART

Happy Monday!

I am often asked where inspiration comes from. Most of my ideas stew from the melting pot of imagery I discover. Sometimes a shopping excursion spurns a new idea, other times a museum visit gives a kick in the right direction. Pinterest is filled with a colorful, never-ending stream of talented artists. Personally, travel is always the best way to clear the cobwebs and see the world in a new light.

So, for the next few weeks, I plan on showcasing inspiring art and artists along with bold shops and products I typically feature. I hope to scour the world (or at least my travel archives) to bring a pop of inspiration to our daily visuals. Today's posts present the aboriginal art paintings I had the chance to visit on my trip to Australia a few years ago.

RAIS CASE: SOCAL STYLE

Ran into the talented founder of Rais Case, Julie Rais Ellis, at the Pasadena Rose Bowl and am excited to share their new products.

According to Julie, Raise Case started In August 2010 with the simple desire to find a stylish laptop case amidst a
sea of sameness. She started with a prototype and then partnered with a local seamstress. With each design, new features were introduced: a strap here, the perfect zipper there, and hardware that created an edge and durability. What seemed an effort in creating something effortless and chic became a study of  quality, engineering, fashion and art. Repurposed materials like burlap, leather and brightly colored blankets helped create a rich canvas for ideas. The Pendleton Blanket Pillows are a new additional to the creative studio.
