HAVE A SABLE & SNOW CHRISTMAS

Just in time for the holidays - a definite saving grace for those of us that still have to buy our Christmas cards! - I discovered Sable and Snow's whimsical, colorful line of greeting cards and journals at Unique LA. This San Diego Stationery and Fine Paper Goods company was founded by three designer/illustrator friends who met in design school. All of the products are produced in San Diego, the designs reflecting a love of custom lettering, fun illustration and (according to the online bio) woodland creatures. The holiday cards are modern and bold, brimming with smiling camels and kissing reindeer that deliver the cute without the kitsch.

CAROLINE Z. HURLEY STUDIO

Upon visiting Caroline's online gallery, I came across her vibrant paintings. It's interesting to compare the loose painting brushstrokes and the loosely printed textiles. There is definitely an interdisciplinary RISD influence evident. I love the colors and textures!

CAROLINE Z. HURLEY TEXTILES

One of the artists I met at Unique LA, Caroline Zucchero Hurley, had a definite SoCal Beach vibe. Surprisingly, I learned she is based out of New York, but admitted her casually chic patterns do well in Los Angeles.

Each of the pieces is block printed by the artist, and no two pieces are exactly alike. Simple, bold geometric shapes create free floating patterns. The soflty tinted patterns are printed on natural linens and soft cottons. Caroline sells the patterns as flexible throws, and has also crafted pillow cases out of them.

Uppercase writes, "Inspired by new colours and patterns she came across during a trip to Bali last year, Caroline Zucchero Hurley, who also happens to have a BFA in Painting from Rhode Island School of Design, began to create beach throws, pillow covers and necklaces. What makes her items unique, is that she is using her background of painting by actually painting on her creations."
