ETSY FRIDAY: MOROCCAN WALLS

Definitely a bold statement: I love it when patterns go off the pillow and onto the entire wall. Inspired by traditional Moroccan mosaics, Melanie Royals, a San Diego designer, creates patterned stencils to brighten up your walls. What a modern way to reinterpret a traditional process! The stencils allow vibrant color combinations to really make a grand gesture and the silkscreened fabric complements the modern geometries. I might try these out to liven up my office!

ETSY FRIDAY: MOROCCAN TOTES

Woven, Felted, Stamped: there are so many ways to make a bag. The Marrakech souks were brimming with colorful leather goods, and I especially appreciated these unique and bright totes.

MOROCCO ON ETSY

Since we all can't jetset off to Marrakech today (And, I already want to go back very soon!) I will bring Morocco to us. Etsy Fridays will now feature Moroccan artisans and local inspired designers, whose one of a kind products can conveniently be purchased stateside. Enjoy!

OUZERETTE: ARTIST PROFILE

Morocco is incredibly full of serendipitous discoveries. Wander off the beaten path - or in our case, away from the bustling tour group - and you might discover even more meaningful stories and more beautiful objects.

We met this talented artists on a stroll through the Ouzerette Medina. He was on the "tourist path" where we had already learned to avoid prolonged eye contact and getting lured inside handicraft shops. Most of these shops actually had unique artifacts - antique wooden doors and crafted silver necklaces sparked my interest - but after a while, it proved a bit overwhelming. This artist quietly and patiently invited us in. I immediately loved his abstract style. Modern Painting is rare to find in Morocco and I appreciated his bright color and bold brush stokes. He captured the bustling, energetic essence of a medina in minimal gestured details. The painting have a vibrant melancholy, and excude a colorful, yet well worn history, that represents Morocco perfectly.
