KENDRA LEBO: BEHIND THE SCENES

When thinking about how best to show Kendra's process, Instagram seemed to be the answer. I have known Kendra since my RISD days, living a block away from her on Waterman Street. She was my trusted confidant, telling me if my designs worked or whether I was being delusional at 2:00am. Since those sleep deprived days, Kendra has done an incredible amount of inspiring work. She ran her own textile studio, selling gorgeous prints for children's apparel and home goods. She is currently developing a new product line. So, to showcase Kendra's behind the scenes process, fancy desk process photographs just would not do it.

Snooping around her Instagram proved that it all come down to cats (Taft and Marnie), dogs (Mabel), vintage menus and pretty florals. Mabel takes center stage, propped up on various comfy floral cushions. Marnie helps Kendra hand letter a new logo. Flea market finds live alongside abandoned buildings. A sense of humor, a keen eye, and a love of flowers resonate on the Instagram snapshots. Retro colors, vintage signage, and quirky patterns showcase the Kendra Lebo world. And, there's always the pretty type!

Kendra lives in a 100 year-old row house in South Philadelphia with her dog Mabel and two cats. When she is no not designing, Kendra loves to eat delicious food, practice yoga and photograph her pets.

As the final Big Bright Bold collaboration for 2013, we have a new Desktop Calendar download for the month of December. Kendra Lebo created the winter themed artwork.

Kendra is an interdisciplinary designer with a passion for the interplay of color, pattern, and type. Inspired by the juxtaposition of the old and new, Kendra creates designs that are influenced by historical architectural decoration, traditional and modern textiles and the built urban environment. 

Kendra earned an MFA in graphic design from the Rhode Island School of Design, and a BS in commerce from the University of Virginia. She has worked for 10 years as a designer in the non-profit, editorial, fashion, home textile fields. We were excited to work with Kendra on several Postmark and Evite designs, infusing her feminine, bohemian style with invitations for like minded celebrations.

ANTALYA: KILIMS

One of my favorite shops in all of Turkey was Antalya's Kilim dealer. We discovered the shop on our day off, wandering around the picturesque historic quarter. Interesting how the patterns resemble Native American motifs. After a good amount of negotiations, I ended up buying the simple woven and embroidered wedding Kilim.

FLEA MARKET FINDS

The Pasadena Flea Market is truly on of my favorite LA events. I love the serendipitous discoveries, finding something you never knew existed that you absolutely cannot live without. As my vintage-shopping loving friend was visiting from San Francisco, we planned a whole day of searching for Rose Bowl gems.

From Turkish suzanis to leather stamped cowboy boots and metal sculptures (that will take your head off my friend warned) to reindeer antlers and african wax print batiks, we discovered a vast array of treasures. I even managed to find a guy who sells fiddle leaf fig trees for a fraction of their normal nursery cost! 

VINTAGE FASHION

In the spirit of Black Friday shopping, I wanted to share these amazing vintage fashion illustrations. We saw the batch at the Pasadena Flea Market last month, and I totally regret not buying any of them! From neckties to women's coats, the illustrations have a modern, chic style. They make me yearn for the glamorous times of yester year. Happy Black Friday and hope everyone scores some awesome deals today. See you all on Monday!
